The Province of British Columbia surveys patients on the care and services they receive in BC’s health care facilities, including emergency departments.
In 2018, for the first time, the survey included questions about the care provided to patients by BCEHS paramedics. The results were very positive:
- 93 per cent of survey respondents said that paramedics treated them with courtesy and respect
- 90 per cent said paramedics listened carefully to them
- 85 per cent said paramedics explained things in a way they could understand
- 84 per cent said they felt comfortable talking to paramedics about their worries and concerns
- 88 per cent said they had confidence and trust in the paramedics
In the table below, the first five rows show the percentage of patients who “always” agreed with the statement. In question 6, respondents were asked to rate the care they received from paramedics on a scale from 0-10. The row shows the percentage of patients who rated it 9 or 10.
The responses are categorized by health authority. The “BCEHS” category is an aggregate score across all health authorities.
