Learn about the qualifications needed to become a Emergency Medical Call Taker (EMCT) with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).
Emergency Medical Call Takers must have the following certificates prior to the hiring date in order to proceed in the selection process with BCEHS:
- A current and valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR-C) certificate or higher
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Ability to type 40 words per minute
- Minimum 19 years of age
- Legally eligible to work full-time in Canada
- Solid knowledge of the geography of British Columbia
- Able to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check, medical, and audiology (hearing) assessment prior to hire
- Available to work shift work including nights, weekends and statutory holidays
- Preference given to those with valid MPDS (Medical Priority Dispatch System) certification but it's not required to apply
