BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) accepts applications on an on-going basis for casual paramedic positions. Following is an outline of the steps in our application and selection process and the actions taken at each step:
1Apply
Candidates are required to apply online.
Your assigned Talent Acquisition Representative will reach out to you once your submission has been received and you will be asked to submit the following documents:
2Interview
Short-listed applicants will be invited to participate in an interview to assess the skills and abilities required to be a paramedic. The interview format is behaviour-based and will explore how candidate skills and abilities make them the best applicant for the job.
3Reference checks and criminal record check
Applicants successful in the interview process will be notified that they will have their references contacted. Individuals who are in a position to judge an applicant’s work, such as their current and previous supervisor, are required choices for references. You will also be asked to complete a Criminal Record Check at this time - Instructions will be sent as applicable. Applicants are responsible for the cost of the criminal records check conducted by the Ministry of Justice.
4Prehire Documents
Applicants successful in the interview with positive references will be moved forward to complete a fitness assessment and be asked to provide station preferences and availability. As BCEHS is a provincial wide service, we would like to note that station availability changes on a monthly basis and not all stations will be hiring when it comes time to do your station placement. If you wish to work in larger urban areas, you may experience a delay in your station placement. To help us place you quicker, we encourage applicants, as able, to consider rural and remote station options.
5Job offer
Applicants who have provided the required pre-requisite documents, have passed the fitness assessment, and received a clear Criminal Record Check will be scheduled for a New Employee Orientation Session (NEO). NEO takes place in Vancouver and BCEHS will cover travel and accommodation for those that qualify. Station placement will occur in conjunction with your NEO session and will be facilitated by your assigned TA rep.
Your official offer of employment will be received once you have been placed into a station and prior to your NEO date.
