Qualifications


Licenses and certificates

Emergency Medical Dispatchers must have the following certificates prior to the posting closing date in order to proceed in the selection process with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS):

  • A valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation-Certificate (CPR-C)
  • A Standard First Aid Certificate (or higher level)
  • A valid Medical Priority Dispatch System Certificate (MPDS)

Other pre-requisites you have and will bring to this role:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to type 40 words per minute
  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Solid knowledge of the geography of British Columbia
  • Medically fit and have successfully completed a Criminal Record Search
  • Available to work shift work including nights, weekends and statutory holidays

Additional desired training: 

  • Completion of a Post-Secondary Emergency Communications course
